Today's Goal

Spend the day discovering the Left Bank at an unhurried pace, gradually making your way south toward Denfert-Rochereau. The Catacombs are today's only fixed appointment, so everything beforehand is designed to be flexible and relaxed.

Today is about neighborhood Paris—excellent coffee, independent shops, market streets and cafés—before descending into one of the city's most remarkable historical sites.

Before Leaving the Hotel

  • Catacombs ticket downloaded and available offline.
  • Comfortable walking shoes.
  • Light sweater or jacket (the Catacombs remain about 14°C year-round).
  • Small day bag only.
  • Refillable water bottle.
  • Phone fully charged.
  • Portable battery if available.

Morning

Coffee

Coutume Café

35 minute walk from the hotel, or Metro if you'd rather save your steps for later.

Cross the Seine into the Left Bank and begin the day at one of Paris' pioneering specialty coffee roasters. The walk itself is part of the experience as the city gradually shifts from the busy center into the quieter streets of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

Order
Espresso, flat white or filter coffee with a fresh pastry.
Why Here
One of the cafés that helped establish Paris' modern specialty coffee scene while remaining relaxed and neighborhood-focused.

Up Next → Wander Saint-Germain

Explore Saint-Germain-des-Prés

There is intentionally no schedule this morning.

Wander wherever looks interesting rather than following a rigid route. Saint-Germain rewards curiosity more than planning.

Recommended streets include:

  • Rue du Bac
  • Rue Jacob
  • Rue Bonaparte
  • Rue du Cherche-Midi
  • Boulevard Saint-Germain

Browse bookstores, galleries, chocolate shops, wine stores, design boutiques and hidden courtyards. Stop whenever something catches your eye.

Don't Miss
Independent bookstores, beautiful building entrances and some of the city's finest food shops tucked onto side streets.
Pace
Slow. There is no reason to rush today.

Fresh sandwiches, tartines, pastries and bottled water.
Why Here

Picnic Option

Continue a few minutes to Jardin Catherine-Labouré, one of Paris' quieter hidden gardens, for an easy picnic before heading farther south.

Up Next → Rue Daguerre

Afternoon

Rue Daguerre

Approximately 30 minute walk

Continue toward Denfert-Rochereau through residential streets until you reach Rue Daguerre, one of Paris' best neighborhood market streets.

Unlike the larger tourist markets, Rue Daguerre feels genuinely local, with florists, cheesemongers, produce vendors, pâtisseries, cafés and specialty food shops lining the pedestrian street.

Browse
Cheese shops, produce markets, pâtisseries, chocolatiers, wine merchants and neighborhood cafés.

Notes

Today intentionally avoids the major monuments. Instead, it showcases the neighborhoods that make Paris memorable: lingering over coffee, wandering without an agenda, discovering small food shops, and ending with one of the city's most extraordinary historical sites. The Catacombs may be the reservation on the calendar, but the walk through the Left Bank is the real highlight of the day.
